A play inspired by the Bolton Anglo-German Circle, founded in 1936 by Eda Barton. Eda worked in the Wages department at a Mill in Bolton called Tootal Broadhurst and Lee. The arrival of German engineers who were installing new machinery, but whom spoke little English, inspired her to begin German language classes in order to better understand the engineers. The group still exists today and I met them in November 2013 to talk about the project and learn more about their history. What this play will become is as yet unknown, and that is what this blog will document. Whilst inspired by true events it is important to note it will be a work of fiction.
